2022-08-13 16:07

The health benefits of essential oils Although they are widely used, little is known about the ability of essential oils to treat certain health conditions.

Aromatherapy

It is estimated that 43% of people with stress and anxiety use some form of alternative therapy to help relieve their symptoms.

Regarding aromatherapy, the initial research is very active. Many people have shown that the smell of some essential oils can be used with traditional therapies to treat anxiety and stress.

However, due to the smell of the compound, it is difficult to conduct a blind study and eliminate prejudice. Therefore, many comments on the effects of essential oils in relieving stress and anxiety are inconclusive.

Interestingly, using essential oils during the massage may help relieve stress, although this effect may only last during the massage.

Headaches and migraines

In the 1990s, two small studies found that applying a mixture of peppermint oil and ethanol on participants' foreheads and temples relieving headache pain.

Recent studies have also observed relief of headaches after applying peppermint and lavender oil to the skin.

In addition, it is suggested that a mixture of chamomile and sesame oil applied to the temples can treat headaches and migraines. This is a traditional Persian headache treatment. More high-quality research is needed

Sleep and insomnia

The lavender essential oil has been shown to improve the sleep quality of postpartum women and heart disease patients.

A review reviewed 15 studies on essential oils and sleep. Most studies show that smelling oil-mainly lavender oil has a positive effect on sleep habits.

Reduce inflammation

Some have suggested that essential oils may help fight inflammation. Some test-tube studies have shown that they have anti-inflammatory effects.

A mouse study found that a combination of thyme and oregano essential oils helped relieve colitis. Two rat studies of caraway oil and rosemary oil found similar results.

However, few human studies have examined the effects of these oils on inflammatory diseases. Therefore, their effectiveness and safety are unknown.

Antibiotics and antimicrobial agents

The rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria has renewed interest in finding other compounds that can fight bacterial infections.

Test-tube studies have extensively studied the antibacterial effects of essential oils such as peppermint and tea tree oil, and some positive results have been observed.

However, while the results of these test-tube studies are interesting, they do not necessarily reflect the effects of these oils on your body. They did not prove that a particular essential oil can treat bacterial infections in humans.
